Galca praises Asensio impact

Constantin Galca praised the impact of Real Madrid loanee Marco Asensio after Espanyol’s 1-0 win against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.

Asensio scored his first League goal of the season to end Espanyol’s 10-game winless run and move the side four points clear of the relegation zone, and Galca made it clear the forward would be crucial to Los Periquitos’ hopes of staying up.

“The team were under pressure and nervous, but we overcame those things and I thank the support of the fans because now come a series of difficult games and we need them on side,” he said after the game.

“We’re aware of our situation. The players are very much involved and together we’ll move forward.

“We’ve picked up three important points, but we must go on to get out of this situation.

“[On his job], the most important thing is the team, not the Coach.

“The players have a lot of character. I’ve told them to do their talking on the pitch and they did that.

“We played against very good opponents. It’s only the fifth game they’ve lost.

“They have very good players, with a great style of football. [German Lux] had a great game, as did [Diego] Alves at Valencia.

“[Asensio] did a great job. I’m happy for him because he scored and I hope he continues to do so because we need him.”
