Report: LFP investigating Barca-Deportivo

It’s said the LFP is looking into the Barcelona-Deportivo La Coruna fixture from the last day of the season over match-fixing suspicions.

Mundo Deportivo and Sport report a claim made on Cadena SER that stems from comments by Deportivo defender Alberto Lopo.

Lopo reportedly told Canal+ he asked Xavi Hernandez to ‘loosen up’ in the match, which finished 2-2, a result that ensured Deportivo avoided relegation.

Barca had been leading 2-0 and had the week before sealed the title, meaning there was nothing riding on the fixture for them.

The draw saw Deportivo remain in the Primera and relegated Eibar, although Eibar have since been saved following Elche’s relegation for non-payment of tax.

Cadena SER’s report of the allegation adds that the LFP are considering whether or not the comments made by Lopo in the match constitute an inducement not to win.

Sport add that LFP President Javier Tebas is unhappy the investigation has become public, while Deportivo are happy nothing untoward went on.
