Emery rubbishes exit speculation

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery has rubbished speculation linking him with the potential vacancies at Milan and Real Madrid.

The former Valencia and Almeria boss had been sounded out as a candidate to replace either Filippo Inzaghi or Carlo Ancelotti, but he insists he is only thinking about seeing out the season with the Andalucians and then resuming talks to extend his contract.

“My perspective doesn’t change and is always linked to the present,” he said at a Press conference ahead of Saturday’s La Liga curtain call at Malaga.

“I don’t seek speculation, I only look towards realities. The reality is that there’s been recognition of the work I’ve done at Sevilla and that’s always a good thing. It means you’re doing something right.

“I don’t go along with speculation. My responsibility is much greater than getting up in the morning and reading that I’ve moved to a different club in a newspaper.

“I know absolutely nothing about [the speculation] and it won’t change [my perspective].

“I spent the whole [of Thursday] afternoon preparing for Saturday’s game and woke up at 8am to prepare a team meeting.

“I’m only thinking about the Sevilla badge and my present, and I still have important things to do here.

“When I say something, nothing could be clearer than that. I’m happy at Sevilla and only thinking about the games that we have left to play.

“In addition, there was a conversation with [sporting director] Monchi and the President about extending my contract.

“I decided to postpone [contract talks] until the end of the season because we still have very important objectives to achieve.

“Why must I choose between Milan, Real Madrid and Sevilla? It’s not a choice that I have access to.

“I’m not happy about being in the newspapers, but I’m happy at Sevilla. The only contract that I’ve signed is with Sevilla. Everything else isn’t true.”
