Nuno: Valencia will reach CL

Nuno Santo has backed Valencia to book their place in next season’s Champions League on the final matchday after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo.

Los Che saw their grip on La Liga’s fourth spot cut to a single point as Sevilla came back from behind to beat Almeria 2-1, but the Coach is adamant that his side will finish the job off at Mediterraneo next week, despite their opponents fighting for survival.

“We started well but conceded an early goal,” he said after the game.

“We reacted well when the equaliser came, took control the game and had more chances, so I think the victory would have been fair.

“Everything’s possible on the last day, but we’ll go to Almeria with the intention of winning and qualifying for the Champions League.

“The team have always tried to win every game, hence the position we’re currently in.

“I don’t think the team were nervous about trying to achieve their objective. Now is the time to rest and prepare for tour next game.

“We’ve shown that we can bounce back [from disappointment] very quickly, and we’re a team who are the youngest in the League and still under construction.

“Now we want to grow without any limits and with the idea of winning every game.

“It’s best to rely on yourselves, and that’s due to the work of the players throughout the season.”
