Suarez reflects on Chiellini bite

Luis Suarez has acknowledged his bite on Giorgio Chiellini last summer as “the worst moment of my career” but maintains it was not all his own doing.

The Barcelona attacker was slapped with a four-month ban for his role in the incident, which happened during Uruguay’s 1-0 win against Italy, but he says he still bears the scars of what he felt was an exaggerated media reaction.

“I don’t understand [the Real Madrid fans] booing Casillas at their own stadium,” he told Cadena COPE.

“Considering what he’s won with Real Madrid, I don’t know why they’d boo him.

“My bite on [Giorgio] Chiellini was the worst moment of my career. I cheated myself, my country, my wife and my children.

“The bites were only partly my fault, however, as I was partly provoked by [Branislav] Ivanovic and [Giorgio] Chiellini.

“Even now it still hurts, but I’ve become stronger for it.

“Someone who stabs another fan or a hooligan is treated no worse than me. I tried to tell FIFA that I didn’t kill anyone.

“It’s hard for me to finish my career at Barca. I previously said that I’d end up going back to Ajax and Nacional.”
