Romero: ‘Cordoba don’t deserve this’

Cordoba boss Jose Antonio Romero felt his team was harshly treated by the referee in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Real Sociedad.

The Andalusians had Aleksandar Pantic sent off on six minutes for a professional foul on Imanol Agirretxe while Inigo Lopez and Dani Pinillos followed suit late on to leave them with just eight men.

In the meantime, Florin Andone had given Cordoba a surprise 12th-minute lead before Agirretxe equalised just after the half-hour mark. However, Romero’s depleted side could not hold on with Chory Castro and Alfreo Finnbogason wrapping things up for the Basques in the second half.

“We are not a team that deserves the strictness with which the regulations have been interpreted and we were unfairly treated,” lamented Romero.

“We worked, moved the ball and wanted to win the game. I think we played well and had a lot possession, which resulted in our goal, while we have also improved at dead-ball situations.

“My players have a strong personality and a way of working, which is the only way we know, and I think we deserved more from this game,” he concluded.
