Pellegrini ‘not in danger’ of City axe

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that his job is safe ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg against Barcelona.

The former Villarreal and Real Madrid trainer led the English giants to Premier League supremacy last season but has come under fire following the recent collapse of their title defence.

Pellegrini’s cause has not been helped by City’s 2-1 home defeat to Barca in the first leg of their European tie a fortnight ago, but he believes his side have what it takes to stun Camp Nou.

“I don't think my seat is in danger. We're second in the table, still strong and are going to fight,” he was quoted as saying by the BBC at a Press conference.

“[Even if my position was under threat] I wouldn’t do anything differently, I would do the same thing and focus on the game.

“I want to say there’s no such strange atmosphere at Manchester City.

“It is a good opportunity for our team and the only way to prove it is to beat one of the biggest teams in Europe and we have that chance [on Wednesday].”
