Cordoba training ground sabotaged

Cordoba have been forced to seek a new training ground after theirs was sabotaged by unknown perpetrators earlier in the week.

Police have been notified of the incident, which saw the grass on Los Blanquiverdes’ sporting complex severely burned, and with no other Primera-standard training pitches in proximity, the club may now have to make the 140km trip down south to Sevilla until a permanent solution can be found.

“What’s happened is lamentable, it’s very serious,” Cordoba President Carlos Gonzalez told reporters.

“I think it’s the first time in the history of Spanish football that a club’s first-team facilities have been sabotaged.

“Police have launched an inquest into determining the perpetrators of this barbarism. There’s no solution for where [the pitch] has burnt.

“The grass won’t grow [over the burnt patches] as the company responsible for our lawn have confirmed this to be the case.

“We can’t train here any longer as there’s a high risk of injury. We now have a serious problem because there’s not another facility in Cordoba where a Primera club can train.”

Cordoba face Sevilla in La Liga on Saturday, hoping to end a run of defeats.
