‘Ronaldo absence will boost Sevilla’

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery claims he would be ‘lying’ if he said that he would rather face Real Madrid with banned forward Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday.

The Portuguese will miss the visit of the Andalucians as a result of his two-game suspension for kicking out at an opposing player during Los Blancos’ 2-1 victory over Cordoba a fortnight ago.

“We play every game to win,” the Basque trainer said at a Press conference.

“The quality of our rivals will obviously affect our chances [of winning], but we have nothing in mind other than to go out and win.

“We know the difficulty in facing Madrid at their stadium, but our only mentality is to overcome it.

“It’s clear that Madrid’s attacking ability is high at the Bernabeu, so our defence must be just as good, but you can’t win if you don’t build attacks. We must also consider that.

“We were better than them in the [UEFA] Super Cup. We now have the opportunity of facing them and being able to demonstrate where we.

“Our credibility and consistency in La Liga is important, and [on Wednesday] we have a chance in a beautiful setting. We all want to be there and take full advantage.

“I’d be lying if I said that I preferred Cristiano Ronaldo to play, but they have other players who can play a combination game and are individually at a high level.

“We have a big squad of players, all of whom want to play and demonstrate their qualities. We’ve shown that we deserve our 42 points.

“I saw [Grzegorz] Krychowiak on crutches the other day, and he told me he wanted to play and that if he didn’t, it was because I didn’t pick him.

“We need players who are in good condition. We will evaluate the players in training. Beto is one of them, but [Benoit] Tremoulinas and [Kevin] Gameiro are unavailable.

“The points we’ve earned are with players already here. For me, the best signings are players who’ve recovered from injury. I hope they’ll be back before long.

“Iago [Aspas] is an important player and must remain so. His contribution [against Espanyol] was very good.

“We take joy from the players’ daily work, but there’s double the joy when you see a player who’s participated less, comes off the bench and gives a good performance.”
