Fernando Torres has played down reports that his return to Atletico Madrid is linked to Coach Diego Simeone’s future at the club.
Simeone was quoted as saying that he sees no reason to depart the Vicente Calderon if the team continues to improve, while Torres offered his opinion on the matter to TVE.
“Simeone had, will have, and has offers, regardless of the players who are here,” said the former Liverpool, Chelsea and Milan striker, who also analysed the first few days of his second spell with Los Rojiblancos.
“The day of my presentation will always remain with me. Until you are not wearing the red and white of this club you don’t realise how much you miss it.”
Torres then looked forward to the forthcoming Copa del Rey tie against Barcelona.
“When they are feeling good, comfortable and in their element, they are able to win matches like the one with Deportivo la Coruna at the weekend.
“But beyond Barca and Real Madrid there is a third team and that is Atletico, who have been able to beat them. We are an uncomfortable opponent,” he declared.
