Wenger on Isco-Arsenal links

Arsene Wenger has poured scorn on reports linking Arsenal with a January swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Isco.

Speculation in yesterday’s media suggested that the Gunners were readying a club-record €81m bid to poach the 22-year-old from under Los Blancos’ noses, but the Frenchman insists he has enough attacking firepower in his squad.

“No, we are not on [Isco’s] case,” he told reporters.

“We have plenty of creative players. We are more short on the defensive side of our game, not on the offensive side. We have plenty of offensive players.

“We just spoke about [Lukas] Podolski who just went out, we spoke about [Yaya] Sanogo going out because we have so many offensive players that they don’t get a chance to play.

“So we won’t buy someone else in the attack.”

Isco was coincidentally viewed as a replacement for Mesut Ozil, who completed a €50m transfer to Arsenal in September 2013.
