Contra rues Getafe first half

Getafe Coach Cosmin Contra described his side’s first half performance against Athletic Bilbao as ‘very bad’ and ‘the worst of the season.’

Athletic were victorious at Coliseum Alfonso Perez thanks to goals from Mikel San Jose and Benat Extaberria, with Angel Lafita on the score sheet for the hosts with the visitors already two up.

“We have to analyse the first half because not everything we prepared took effect. The first half was very bad, the worst of the season.

“There were errors individually and at set-pieces. In the second half we did enough to draw but we couldn’t get the goal.

“We’ve had possession in the last few games and now we’re looking for players who play good football with a No.9 through the centre.

“There are players who should be giving much more. The positive thing is the reaction in the second half and that when we’re truly in a game we can get close to anyone.

“It’s very difficult to win when you only play 45 minutes.”

The game also saw the return of Pedro Leon, the winger who had been in dispute with the club and the League after he wasn’t registered by Getafe, then initially denied a licence to play by the League in spite of a court order.

“I made the changes I wanted,” Contra said when asked about the introduction of Leon, who played the last 20 minutes.

“I knew Pedro couldn’t play much more than that and he did what I asked. Gradually he will get up to the pace of games and be another player in the squad.

“It’s been a complicated issue and we have acted in the best way for the group and the player.”
