Flores returns to Getafe

Getafe have appointed Quique Sanchez Flores as their new Coach on an 18-month contract.

The 49-year-old returns to the first club he managed in La Liga a decade ago and will replace Cosmin Contra, who recently departed for Chinese outfit Guangzhou R&F.

“I consider it a great experience. I’m happy and enthused to be working in La Liga again for a team I used to coach. I will work with people I know,” the former Valencia and Atletico Madrid boss said at his official unveiling.

"I didn’t need long to accept this challenge. I had a meeting with [sporting director] Toni where we spoke about the situation and had a few other things to discuss. I wanted to stay in Europe and return to a big league.

“We all assume the same responsibilities. The club have established themselves, and I’m glad to be here. After all the travelling, I’m very happy to see familiar faces and a club who have grown.

“In the last two weeks, the players have been affected by the speculation. In recent games they haven’t showed their best form, but Getafe want to make things right and hit their targets.

“We will work with professionalism and hope to improve in the shortest length of time possible.

“The squad are ready. There have been significant injuries which have made them suffer, but these things can happen in football and we’ll react to them.

“There’s a winter market, and we’ll try to build a team capable of competing well in the remaining five months [of the season].

“Professionally I’m not the same as I was 10 years ago. We need to remember how we got here. The Coliseum was filled by a mood that we broadcast all.

“There’s an important task to fulfil and we need the fans on side. We have to be a team that they enjoy watching.”

Alberto Giraldez, Antonio Diaz and Jose Luis Gallardo will form Flores’ backroom staff while Oscar Garcia has been retained from the previous regime.
