Marcelo: No records talk

Marcelo insists Real Madrid are focused on winning games rather than setting records after a 14th straight win.

Los Blancos dispatched Eibar on Saturday with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice, helping Madrid on course for what could be a team goals record for a single season.

But the Brazil left-back says the team’s attention is on getting better and better, rather than racking up the landmarks.

“We’re going well but we need to improve, as always. We have to be humble and calm. It wasn’t easy against Eibar and it’s a difficult place to play. We need focus,” he said, AS reports.

“We’re not talking about breaking records in the locker room. We talk about doing the work the Coach has asked, to run and to fight.”

Marcelo was asked for his take on comments made by Xabi Alonso, who claimed Manuel Neuer and not Iker Casillas was the best goalkeeper with whom he had played.

Alonso also backed a Germany World Cup winner to land the Ballon d’Or, not Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Everyone has their opinion. I have mine and I respect what Xabi said,” Marcelo replied.

“Me? I think Iker is the best, then Keylor Navas and Fernando Pacheco.

“Who would I give the Ballon d’Or to? Ronaldo, because I’m not going to win it!

“We know Xabi brought a lot to Madrid but the way this team is, when a very good player leaves another will come in. And the team is working very well.

“I don’t look at any other teams. We just do our work.”
