‘No revenge against Cesc or Costa…’

Vicente del Bosque has expanded on comments made that appeared to question the international futures of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa.

Del Bosque told Onda Cero that there’s no guarantee the Chelsea pair, who are absent from the squad to play Belarus and Germany, will return to the team when they’re fit.

At his Press conference to preview the game against the World Cup winners, Del Bosque explained what he meant in more detail.

“It’s as I said. When a player comes with us and is playing well it’s difficult for someone else who wants to come to join us,” the Coach said, AS reports.

“If I say that about Diego or Cesc I’m not threatening revenge or retaliation, it simply reflects something we all know about football.

“If you don’t play and your replacement does well, then first you need to do better than them to play. But no one is ruled out.”
