Biglia: Madrid asked about me

Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia has admitted that Real Madrid were interested in taking him to the Santiago Bernabeu this season.

The 28-year-old Argentine international [pictured, left], who played all 120 minutes of the 1-0 World Cup Final defeat to Germany in Brazil this summer, told reporters in his native country that Madrid had asked about him but ultimately negotiations did not materialise.

“It’s true that in the summer there was contact with Real Madrid for me to go there, but as it was near the end of the transfer market the opportunity fell through,” revealed Biglia.

“I’m fine with Lazio at the moment but I want to continue improving and I hope this option comes up again some other time.”

It is understood that Biglia is being weighed up as a replacement for Sami Khedira, whose days at the club appear to be numbered, and boss Carlo Ancelotti could return with an offer for the player in the January transfer market.
