Nuno ‘proud’ after Athletic draw

Valencia Coach Nuno Santo declared he was proud of his team despite being held to a goalless home draw by Athletic Bilbao.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Nuno suggested that with Athletic’s game plan of frustrating his side, the result was understandable.

“Despite the result, which doesn’t please us, we haven’t been lacking too much,” he said, Marca reports.

“In the first half we had chances and in the second our control was total. I’m proud of the players.”

Nuno also complained about the state of the Mestalla pitch, arguing it didn’t allow for attacking moves to be built.

“The pitch made it very difficult to move the ball up-field. It bounced wrong and made things difficult, and it harms the players too,” he noted.
