Pareja eyes Euro spot for Sevilla

Sevilla central defender Nico Pareja believes Unai Emery’s squad should be eyeing a European place at the very least this season.

However, the Argentine, recovered from the ankle injury that forced him off in the last La Liga game against Deportivo la Coruna, is adamant that right now the only thing that matters is this weekend’s game against Elche at the Martinez Valero.

“It’s the next big game we face and the only thing going through our minds at the moment is winning against Elche.

“That would bring us closer to being where we want to be, but we know we will be up against a very difficult opponent on their own ground

“Every one of us wants to fight for the European places, although we mustn’t lose sight of anything else as last year we took things game-by-game,” he told reporters.

Pareja, 30, was signed from Spartak Moscow before the start of this season and feels his time at Sevilla might possibly give him the opportunity to add to the one international cap he has won so far.

“You are forever hoping that you get the call to play for your country, which is the greatest pride a player can have, but to get that chance you have to play very well for your club.

“My head is now in Sevilla and I’m in the European window so maybe they will take a look,” he commented.
