Costa wants Spain focus

Diego Costa is ready to put the spat between Jose Mourinho and Vicente Del Bosque behind him and focus on scoring for Spain.

Chelsea manager Mourinho asked that Costa not be picked for La Roja’s Euro 2016 double-header against Slovakia and Luxembourg, claiming the striker will struggle to play so many games.

However, Costa was called by del Bosque and told reporters upon his arrival with the national team that he only wants to talk about football.

“I don’t like being in the middle. What I want most is to succeed here,” AS reports Costa as saying.

“So far it hasn’t gone that well and I want it to go well. I haven’t scored for Spain and I haven’t had many chances.

“I have to work for the first goal but that excites me. When there’s a chance, I’ll be ready.”

Costa admitted however that his fitness has been a problem that he is working to correct.

“I had some problems but I’m getting better. I am better. The Coach knows I carry some problems in the week but I keep going,” he acknowledged.

“Mourinho didn’t say anything to me before I left. There are times when you have to play despite the risk.

“For example, I didn’t play against Macedonia. I’ll be careful. The injury I had at Atletico never healed but slowly I’m getting better.”

Costa touched briefly on club matters, both the incident between Mourinho and Arsene Wenger and his partnership with Cesc Fabregas.

“I don’t think Mourinho was hurt by it,” he said of Wenger’s touchline shove.

“It’s going well with Cesc but he is very talented. We know each other and hopefully we can create many goals together.”
