Alonso suffers ankle injury

Xabi Alonso is struggling with an ankle injury that is hampering the Bayern Munich midfielder’s movement.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Alonso is a doubt to play Stuttgart this weekend after he complained of a sore ankle following a training session on Wednesday.

Alonso hadn’t trained for a week due to the international break and had a 20-minute session of jogging under the eye of fitness coach Lorenzo Buenaventura.

The former Real Madrid playmaker wasn’t in football boots but rather trainers and while he didn’t have a problem jogging forwards, he was unable to change direction or sprint.

Alonso’s compatriots, Javi Martinez and Thiago Alcantara, are both on the sidelines, which leaves Pep Guardiola likely to turn to Philipp Lahm to deputise in midfield.

The game against Stuttgart was to be Alonso’s first in front of the Bayern supporters, MD add.
