Di Maria’s father hits out at Madrid

The father of Angel Di Maria has criticised Real Madrid after the midfielder was sold to Manchester United.

Marca reports Di Maria senior as contradicting claims made by Los Blancos as to the timeline of events and the terms of the contract the Argentina international was offered.

“Many newspapers have already interpreted the person who is my son and why he isn’t at Madrid,” Di Maria’s father said.

“Angel won five or six trophies with Real Madrid and despite two enhanced contracts, the money originally agreed didn’t come.

“Angel was never appreciated. It was like they didn’t want him in the club and showed him no affection.

“He always had to win a place to get past other players, such as Gareth Bale.

“My son is tired of always fighting, demonstrating and showing everything.

“They never offered €6m. The last bid was €5m, which was €1.5m more. The first problems arose for economic reasons.

“He went to Madrid for a salary and it was halved.”

He added that Di Maria was happy with his decision to move to Old Trafford, and that Madrid didn’t realise what they had lost.

“Angel is happy at Man Utd. He is also treated well economically for what was offered by Madrid,” he went on.

“Real Madrid loses a key, dominant player who at any time can make a play and win the game.”
