‘Sevilla not afraid of Real Madrid’

Sevilla President Jose Castro has said the club has nothing to fear in the European Super Cup against Real Madrid.

The sides meet tomorrow in Cardiff and Castro told Marca that Los Rojiblancos’ experience of European finals means they can go into the game with a strong chance of victory.

“We are happy to be in another final. We’re playing against a very powerful economic rival, and therefore a powerful football rival,” Castro said.

“It’s going to be a very complicated final but Sevilla intend to reign in Europe this season.

“The team has trained with an intensity that scares the opposition. We can make it very complicated for Madrid.

“We’ll win or we won’t but we won’t be defeated.

“Real Madrid’s pre-season doesn’t worry me. I’m focused on my team. I’ve seen them with incredibly intensity from day one.

“This team has ambition and is capable of anything.

“We’re not afraid of anything, we’re Sevilla. We have proven to be reliable in finals.”

Castro also recalled the 2006 European Super Cup which saw Sevilla overcome Barcelona, with goals from Renato, Freddie Kanoute and Enzo Maresca.

“This is similar, with the opponent, one of the best in Europe, and a difficult match, but this team has no limits,” the President went on.

“We won’t win with ambition and hope. The match has to be played. The final will be interesting for pre-season because both teams are fresh.”
