Bacca: Sevilla earned Super Cup place

Carlos Bacca doesn’t want Sevilla to take a back seat to Real Madrid in the European Super Cup next week.

The Colombia striker has told an interview with AS that while Los Blancos are a very strong side, he believes Los Rojiblancos are their equals.

“It’s not going to be easy. We face a great opponent, a Real Madrid that is one of the best teams in the world,” Bacca said.

“They have some great players, but we have them as well. Sevilla has a team that has earned the right to play in the Super Cup.

“We will have our opportunities and we should exploit them.

“It’s a final, it’s one match. We are preparing in the best way and we know that and we’re here because of the choices we made in the past.

“All the team is very excited at the prospect of winning another trophy.”

Bacca added from an individual point of view that despite returning late to training after the World Cup, he feels ready to start the season.

“I feel better and better. I’m working to improve every day and I’m happy because when you train well you get more confidence to continue working on the same line,” he continued.

“Little by little I’m finding the way I want.

“I’ve worked hard since the first day to get a place in the Super Cup. I’ll get the maximum level I can reach and that’s fine.

“I never forget [how to score]. I scored on a very nice day and as always I’m still proud and happy to be in this team and to continue giving my best.”

The Super Cup will pit Bacca against compatriot James Rodriguez, Madrid’s big signing of the summer.

Bacca revealed that while he welcomes James to Spain, they haven’t spoken about the fixture to come in Cardiff.

“I’ve welcomed James and I’m wishing him the best but we’ve not talked about the Super Cup,” he confirmed.

“This isn’t the time. He will look after his team and I’ll look after mine.

“I wish him well but there will be opportunities during the year to speak with calmness.”

The interview concluded with Bacca asked about the Madrid he and Sevilla will face, insisting he isn’t intimidated by the Madrid defence but doesn’t expect the uncertainty about Madrid’s goalkeepers to work in his favour.

“[Afraid of Pepe and Ramos?] Not at all. I’m not afraid of anything. I work hard to play the best,” Bacca contended.

“I don’t know [if the goalkeeping question helps him]. I care more about me and being at my best level for the sake of Sevilla.”
