Monaco rival PSG for Di Maria

Monaco are looking to beat Paris Saint-Germain to the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria.

Mundo Deportivo claims that despite an agreement between PSG and Madrid over the transfer of the Argentina international, the delay in confirming the move, due to PSG’s need to conform with their Financial Fair Play punishment, has given Monaco a window to move.

The principality team – and Di Maria’s agent, Jorge Mendes – have a good relationship with Florentino Perez and are hoping to take advantage of the stalemate.

Reports in the French Press say Monaco will match the €8m-a-year contract offered to Di Maria by PSG but will have to agree a fee with Perez.

Monaco don’t want to meet the €75m agreement between PSG and Madrid and feel €55m is a more reasonable sum, but Perez wants at least €60m.

But Di Maria is growing desperate to leave Santiago Bernabeu – despite Coach Carlo Ancelotti wanting him to stay – and might be open to moving to Monaco if the PSG deal can’t be pushed through.

Should PSG succeed in selling Ezequiel Lavezzi to Liverpool then they may have the flexibility to sign Di Maria, MD add.
