Del Bosque looking forward

Vicente Del Bosque wants Spain to put their disastrous World Cup behind them and look ahead to the next cycle.

The Coach appeared on Al Primer Toque and admitted the pain of the group stage exit still lingered but insisted there was only one way to handle it.

“The wound of the World Cup hurts but we must look forward and fight for a better future, as good sportsmen,” Marca reports Del Bosque as saying.

“The RFEF never had any doubts about my renewal. They weighed the last six years over the games we lost.

“I understand the fans’ reaction and its normal when we’ve lost to be against the team and the Coach.”

Del Bosque was asked if he would change anything about La Roja’s pre-tournament preparations and admitted that he wouldn’t.

He also suggested veteran pair Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez remain in his thoughts.

“I wouldn’t make many changes in the 23 [-man squad] to what we did at the time,” he confirmed.

“Maybe we failed, but we did our best. Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez might not show. If they’re well they will hope to come as always.

“They are outstanding players, heroes who have given us much of what we have. Why not bring them back?”
