Messi: It’s a little step

Lionel Messi has expressed his delight at reaching the World Cup final, but warned the tournament is far from over yet.

The Barcelona forward was called in for a random post-match drugs test after the final whistle of Argentina's win over the Netherlands, later sharing his thoughts through social media, according to AS.

“I got picked for the doping and I can’t be in the locker room right now,” he said.

“I am proud to be part of this squad! They are all phenomenal. What a game we played, what madness!

“We’re in the final. Enjoy it, but it’s just a little step.”

Messi also offered his condolences to the family of Jorge ‘Topo’ Lopez, an Argentinean journalist who worked for AS and died in a road accident earlier this week.

“A big hug to all of Argentina and a very special memory for Jorge ‘Topo’ Lopez,” he continued.

“This victory is especially for you, my friend. A big hug to your family, and lots of encouragement.”
