Liverpool ‘offered Agger to Barca’

Barcelona were offered the chance to sign long-term target Daniel Agger by Liverpool but turned down the proposal.

Mundo Deportivo claim that the Reds used an intermediary to inform Barca that if they wanted Agger to replace Carles Puyol, then he would be available.

The approach was made three months ago and Barca consider the idea but eventually declined to pursue the Denmark international despite having long held an interest in Agger.

Barca backed off from the deal due to Agger’s injury problems despite being fans of his game and ability to play out from defence.

Agger has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract but MD believe manager Brendan Rodgers will sell the 29-year-old due to the belief that his best years are behind him.
