Pep: Spain deserved better

Pep Guardiola believes Spain deserved a better showing at the World Cup because of what the players have achieved in the past.

Mundo Deportivo reports the Bayern Munich Coach as praising Vicente Del Bosque as the right man for the national team, and offering his sympathy to the squad for their group stage exit.

“I am very sorry for Spain. Football owes a lot to these players, who have done so much. They deserved to compete,” the former Barcelona boss said.

“The World Cup has been very cool, very entertaining, very funny.

“There are a lot of goals and teams go out to attack, without fear, and defend themselves.

“Argentina are a competitive beast. When you have such good attacking players like [Lionel] Messi, [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Angel] Di Maria and [Sergio] Aguero, you have to adapt and play them for what they do and what they know.”

Guardiola also touched on his career and his departure from Barcelona, explaining why he had to step down as Coach.

“I was tired and needed to rest. I’m not like [Sir Alex Ferguson], who needs to lead a team every year,” he argued.
