Arsenal are speculated as having diverted transfer priority this summer away from Barcelona’s David Villa and towards Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic.
Villa was believed the subject of an offer from Arsenal in January, only for manager Arsene Wenger to indicate that his advances had been turned down by the Catalans.
However, the striker is reported today in The Mirror as still seeking assurances at the Camp Nou over his long-term future.
The player, whose contract expires in June 2014, is seen as keen to once more guarantee regular playing time next year in the build-up to the World Cup in Brazil.
It is alleged, though, that Arsenal may no longer provide him with an option out. It is understood that their interest now lies in Fiorentina’s Jovetic.
