Real Madrid to announce renewal of veteran midfielder next week – report

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos stifled something of a laugh when he was asked about his future following a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, before denying that he had made a call on if he would be back in white next season.

The comments were paid little mind by Real Madrid, and now SER Deportivos (via Diario AS) say that this is because they know a deal is wrapped up for Kroos. The 34-year-old midfielder will announce his contract renewal following the semi-final with Bayern next Wednesday. This tallies with the reporting up until this point.

Kroos has always maintained that he wants to go out at the top, and does not fancy a secondary role before his retirement, as has happened to Luka Modric this season. However there is no doubt that he remains key to Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti as things stand. The German midfielder has an argument to say he is their player of the season.
