Taylor Swift phenomenon hits La Liga as Real Madrid may be forced to alter calendar

Real Madrid are set to play hosts to the biggest-selling artist in the world currently, Taylor Swift, and it could have a major impact on the finale of La Liga.

Swift is due to appear in concert at the renovated Santiago Bernabeu on the 30th of May this year. However as reported by Relevo, she has added a second date due to demand, likely to occur on either the 29th or the 31st. Such are the demands of her set, that it requires a minimum of three days for her set to be built, and if the earlier date is selected, it could clash with the final matchday in La Liga, scheduled for the weekend of the 25th and the 26th of May.

The same outlet goes on to detail that Real Madrid have requested to La Liga that their game be scheduled for the Saturday to avoid any potential clashes, which in theory is not thought to be a problem. Los Blancos will welcome Real Betis on the final matchday of the season, and if neither have anything on the line, then it will not cause any issues as La Liga could schedule it as a standalone fixture.

If they are still playing for something, La Liga schedules their final two matchdays so that teams battling for the same objectives play at the same time. This could force a wider scale impact on the fixture list, which potentially a significant section of the games taking place on the Saturday, as opposed to the traditional Sunday evening finale.

This is not the first time this has happened, with Atletico Madrid requesting a different schedule in order to accommodate the Rolling Stones and Guns’n’Roses in 2018, while Athletic Club petitioned for an earlier fixture in order to host the 2018 European Cup final in rugby.
