Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has announced that he will be returning to the national team next month, ahead of Euro 2024 in his home nation of Germany. Kroos retired after the last Euros, but has decided to come back for what looks to be a last dance on the international scene.
The 34-year-old made the announcement on his Instagramm, after several months of speculation.
“Guys, short and sweet: I will play for Germany again from March. Why? Because I was asked by the national coach, I’m up for it and I’m sure that a lot more is possible with the team at the European Championships than most people believe!”

As per Marca, Kroos first informed Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti of his decision before making it public. He was keen to let them know first, and assured Los Blancos that it would not affect his decision on his Real Madrid career.
Kroos is out of contract in the summer, and has not ruled out retirement. He remains key for both Real Madrid and Ancelotti this season, but is thought to be keen to avoid a season on the bench at the end of his career, and would rather go out at the top of the game. No doubt he will seek assurances from Ancelotti on his plans with Kylian Mbappe believed to be arriving in the summer, and whether he will change the midfield setup.
