Ajax keen on 20-year-old La Liga talent

Celta Vigo midfielder Williot Swedberg has not had the easiest of times since arriving in Spain, but he still has admirers in Europe. The 20-year-old was a one-time target for Ajax before his move to Galicia, and the Dutch giants are again considering a move for him.

Decisions are starting to be taken at Celta, although they are keen to seal survival as soon as possible, with a five-point gap to Cadiz and five games to go. Manager Claudio Giraldez and Sportig Director Marco Garces are aware that sales are likely to be necessary in the summer though.

Midfielder Renato Tapia is the only player out of contract, and Relevo say that talks have cooled of late, meanwhile Swedberg could be a potential avenue of income. Arriving for €5.5m two seasons ago from Hammarby in his native Sweden, Swedberg has featured for just 654 minutes in 17 occasions this season. Giraldez has used him more frequently though, and he averages a goal every 57 minutes in La Liga – he has four of them.

For his part, Swedberg is not looking to leave Balaidos. He does not feel he has had a chance to show his best form, despite being aware of the interest from Ajax, who are trying to rebuild after a disastrous season.

Celta may open the door for him if the offer is good enough, but given Giraldez’s work so far, it could be tempting to hang onto him with a financial perspective too. Should Swedberg begin to flourish, and extract his talent, then he could become far more valuable in a short space of time.
