Sergio Ramos: New El Clasico date unfair on Real Madrid

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos believes the new date for El Clasico favours Barcelona due to extra rest before the game.

The match had been scheduled to be played at the Blaugrana’s Camp Nou stadium on 26 October but due to the current volatility of the political situation in Catalonia, La Liga asked that the game be reversed to Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

This request ruled out in favour of a postponement as both clubs had rejected the switch of venue and agreed on a new date, along with the Spanish FA.

The rearranged fixture has been confirmed for Wednesday 18 December with an 8pm kick-off local time.

However, the Catalan giants will have 29 hours more rest for the game as they travel to Real Sociedad for a 4.15pm (Spanish time) kick-off on Saturday 14 December with Madrid playing in Valencia the following day at 9pm.

“In the end, the only one affected is Real Madrid,” Ramos explained in a press conference for the Spanish national team, as cited by Cadena Cope.

“But we are affected because we should be playing the same day as Barca and we should have the same amount of rest.

“But in any case, we will go there with enthusiasm and ready to win the game.”
