FC Barcelona ‘concern’ over Jean-Clair Todibo

FC Barcelona are concerned over the progress of teenage defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to reports in Mundo Deportivo.

According to feature writer Fernando Polo, club sources have confirmed that the promising centre back appears to have become distracted, with fears over his attitude towards being a professional.

Todibo joined the Catalan side in January 2019, ending a long running dispute with previous club Toulouse, over his contract situation with the Ligue 1 side.

Initially he was supposed to join the La Liga champions in July 2019, however when their request to move the transfer forward by six months were met with resistance by Toulouse, Todibo went on strike to force the move.

Senior figures inside the club are now worried that this attitude is returning, with coaches reporting that he is unwilling to listen to advice and under performing in training.

After being forced to play with the youth team at Toulouse, following his stand off with the club's management, he was short of match fitness when he arrived at the Camp Nou, and made just two appearances in 2018-19.

Valverde will now make a decision on what to do with the 19-year old, with hopes that close friends Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele can assist with getting him back on track.

However, with the potential signing of Dutch international Matthijs De Ligt in the coming weeks, the former Athletic Bilbao boss may opt to loan Todibo out to gain more experience.
