Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has called on fans to show unity: “What we (the players) need right now is your support.”
The German international was writing on social media after his side’s shock Champions League exit after a four-goal defeat away at Liverpool.
“I had to get my mind at ease after the match, to review what happened and this is why my message is late,” Ter Stegen wrote on Instagram, as cited by Marca.
“I received many messages following the match with a lot of respect and encouragement, and I am grateful for every one of them – you are all amazing.
“We want all our supporters to keep their heads held high because that is what we need right now – your support.
“The season is not yet over and we still have league matches remaining and the Copa del Rey final – but we can only win if we are together and united.
“This Sunday is the last game of the season at the Camp Nou and I am excited to seeing you all there.”
