Monchi set for Arsenal move – Spanish reports

Sporting director Monchi looks set to join Arsenal according to reports in the Spanish press, following his exit from Roma.

A statement on Roma’s official website also confirms Ricky Massara has replaced Monchi – who spent 17 years in his role at Sevilla – indefinitely in the position.

Monchi was under pressure due to Roma’s middling results in Serie A this campaign with his own transfer market moves coming in for a large amount of scrutiny.

Wednesday night’s Champions League exit at the hands of Porto speeded up his exit, amid reports that he had exchanged words with angry fans after the result in Portugal.

There are now multiple reports he will join Arsenal and link up with boss Unai Emery, with whom he won three consecutive Europa League titles for Sevilla between 2014 and 2016.

Marca, Diario AS and El Mundo Deportivo are among the outlets linking the former goalkeeper with a move to North London.
