Ernesto Valverde: Lyon a difficult test for Barcelona

Ernesto Valverde has urged his Barcelona players against complacency ahead of their Champions League last 16 tie against Olympique Lyonnais.

The Blaugrana Coach cited last season’s quarter-final defeat against Roma and cited how Lyon will try to press his side high up the pitch.

“Going into that tie everyone was talking about how we had the best possible draw, saying [Roma] were a weak rival,” Valverde told his pre-match press conference, as cited by ESPN.

“That didn't help us. We'd only lost one game at that point, we felt we had more to give and we'd won the first leg 4-1, but you can't go into these games with your guard down.

“It's going to be difficult, we know that, Lyon have great players. (Ferland) Mendy's a great player, (Nabil) Fekir's fundamental, it's a big loss that he's banned, (Memphis) Depay is really important.

“But what I like most is their style. They always attack, they're strong and they will try to press us so we can't play.”
