Barcelona prioritise Jordi Alba contract renewal

Barcelona are prioritising the contract renewal of defender Jordi Alba after securing a new contract for boss Ernesto Valverde, report Diario Sport.

Last month, Cadena Ser reported that an agreement had already been struck between the player and the club, but fresh reports say the negotiations are still ongoing.

Alba’s contract at the Camp Nou has entered its final 18 months, despite the Spaniard being Barca’s first-choice left-back and in fine form.

Sport say only one formal meeting between the two has been held thus far but a new meeting has been set following the Blaugrana’s Champions League first leg clash against Olympique Lyonnais.

The left-back’s current deal at the Camp Nou expires in June 2020 and possesses a €150m release clause but he wants an improved contract.

Juventus and Manchester United are said to be among the clubs interested in a possible move for the Spain international.

Alba has played more than 250 matches for Barca after his 2012 move from Valencia with his last renewal penned in 2015.
