Antonio Sanabria is ‘happy to be back in Italy’ after arriving to complete his transfer from Real Betis to Genoa: ‘A historic club’.
The Paraguayan netted for Los Verdiblancos in Thursday night’s 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final against Espanyol, but is now completing a move away.
However, he is now set to sign an 18-month loan contract with the Serie A club with a purchase option of €25m included in the deal, according to Marca.
“I’m happy to be back in Italy, it's exciting” the former Roma striker told Sky Sport Italia.
“I’m ready for this new adventure. Genoa are a good team and a historic club. I hope to do well with them.
“The fans? I want to meet them soon and I greet them all.”
The 22-year-old has netted six goals this season but has only started seven La Liga matches to date this campaign and has struggled for a sustained run of form.
Sanabria joined Betis from Roma in the summer of 2016 in a €7.5m deal and has a €30m release clause at Los Verdiblancos, but the Italian club still reportedly hold 50% of his rights.
The move to Genoa would see Sanabria replace Krzysztof Piatek, who is bound for Milan.
