Real Sociedad sack Asier Garitano, appoint Imanol Alguacil

Real Sociedad have sacked Coach Asier Garitano after four consecutive defeats and replaced him with B team boss Imanol Alguacil.

La Real are languishing in 15th place in La Liga following their dismal run of form with Garitano, who was only appointed in the summer from Leganes, paying the price.

Club president Jokin Aperribay and Roberto Olabe, the director of football, took the decision on Wednesday following the squad reporting losing confidence in the Coach.

In a statement, the club thanked Garitano “for all the contribution, professionalism and dedication he has shown during the exercise of his duties in the management of the first team,” while “wishing him the best for his professional and personal future.”

Imanol took charge of nine matches at the end of last season following Eusebio Sacristan’s dismissal – winning 16 points in that time.

Real Sociedad’s next match is away to Real Madrid when LaLiga returns from a mid-season break on 6 January before a Copa del Rey test against Real Betis.
