Garitano ‘privileged’ to Coach in La Liga

Leganes Coach Asier Garitano has played down reports of a summer exit from the club by stating it is a ‘privilege’ to manage in La Liga.

The 48-year-old has guided Lega to two promotions since taking charge in 2013 and stabilised their position in the top flight – currently in their second successive season in La Liga.

“I feel very privileged to be in my position at this club, to be able to train and to work at the top level of football,” Garitano is cited as saying by Diario AS.

“La Liga is one of the best divisions in the world and it contains just 20 Coaches so to be in this division is a real honour.

“We now know what it takes to Real Madrid but we know the stats of teams going there are not good and we must accept that we will need to be magnificent, and them not so much.

“Zinedine Zidane is a top Coach and it is fantastic for me to be able to come up against him and pit my ideas against his and the fantastic players he has.”

Garitano – a reported target for Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad – also guided Lega to the Copa del Rey semi-finals this season but has previously stated he will not renew his deal unless the club match his ambitions.
