Soria: Villarreal our biggest match

Sevilla goalkeeper David Soria has explained his side’s weekend clash with Villarreal as their ‘biggest of the season so far’.

Los Rojiblancos have slipped to 7th in La Liga, one place behind Villarreal with both sides European hopes for next season hanging in the balance.

“Our match with Villarreal is our most important of the campaign so far,” Soria told Sevilla official club media.

“We are playing for a spot in the Europa League and if we do not qualify it will be very hard to take, and we cannot let that happen.

“Against Bayern we all came away feeling proud of what we had done against a team that had demanded a lot from us.

“We lacked a goal that would potentially have given us both the mental and physical push that we needed in order to have a chance in the last few minutes.”

The former Hearts goalkeeper replaced Sergio Rico in the Sevilla starting line-up earlier this month, and he admits the selections have come as a ‘shock’ to him.

“Yeah it was a bit of a shock as I did not expect such an opportunity so soon,” he continued.

“Experienced people around me, such as my agents and others, told me that I had always been ready and that's what I have shown.

“The day before the match I was asked if I was ready, I slept well that night and I said that of course, I was ready.”
