Seedorf ‘getting closer’ to first win

Clarence Seedorf believes he is “getting closer” to a first win as Deportivo La Coruna boss after he lost his goalkeeper to a red card in a 1-1 draw with Eibar.

Maksum Koval made unwanted Liga history on his Depor debut between the sticks, becoming the first goalkeeper to be sent off on his debut, as Depor remained two points adrift and extended their winless run under Seedorf to five games.

“We had a very good half-hour, when we could’ve gone 2-0 up, but the red card penalised us,” he said after the match.

“In the second half, we overcame the numerical inferiority and earned a point, but we paid heavily a lot for the mistakes we made.

“I believe we competed with lots of sincerity, we earned a point and in the second half, we were very good defensively.

“The fans were passionaite. I believe they applauded us and the players deserved it for the effort they put in.

“The objective is getting closer every day for me, even if the fans think otherwise.

“Koval? We have to be stronger than any mistake or refereeing decision. The first half is a base to build on.

“I played Koval because I wanted more character and he has more of it than Ruben [Martinez].

“We have more faith and strength after this match, without a doubt.”
