Emery ‘relishing’ Madrid clash

Unai Emery admits he and Paris Saint-Germain are ‘relishing’ their Champions League clash with Real Madrid this season.

The Parisians lost a remarkable tie to Barcelona 6-5 at the same stage last season, but the Coach believes his side have what it takes to advance further in the competition.

“We will be the focus of the world for those games, and we are relishing the opportunity,” Emery told an interview with Marca.

“This is a game that could possibly be a final, between two teams who are high on quality and talent, it will be excellent for neutrals.

“Our message is that we believe in ourselves and our ability to prepare for games like these and win them – there is natural excitement about the nature of the challenge.

“We don’t put labels on ourselves in terms of style of play, we aim to score lots of goals and defend well, to find the best path to victory.

“We make between 700 and 800 passes per game – one of the highest in Europe – yet nobody talks about us in that way, but it’s fine.”
