Jailed ex-Sevilla president blasts Betis

Jailed former Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has hit out at city rivals Real Betis following their Seville derby celebrations.

Currently behind bars due to corruption charges, Del Nido blasted Los Verdiblancos ‘for doing everything but hiring a bus through the streets’ and also said he ‘was there’ for Sevilla should they need him.

“It is true our club is currently going through tough times,” Del Nido told a video recording.

“The eternal rival beat us in the derby and that can happen in football, but the performance was not of the level we require at Sevilla FC.

“Our rivals celebrated as if they had won a European title, but that is because they never beat us. Well, we congratulate you – nothing has happened!

“They see the greatness of Sevilla and believe a win requires them to hire a bus to parade through the streets, but the level we demand from Sevilla is much better than that.

“I am here, I am attentive in case my Sevilla needs me to make it what it once was but fear not, we all aspire to be the best team in the world again.”
