Newcastle United are poised to complete the signing of Eibar defender Florian Lejeune after activating his €10m release clause, say reports.
According to Diario AS, the Magpies have agreed to pay the full sum to the Basque club in order to obtain the highly-rated 26-year-old central defender and an announcement is expected soon.
“I’m not very optimistic, I see it difficult for Lejeune to stay,” Eibar sporting director Fran Garagarza is quoted as saying by Marca.
“We are worried that Newcastle are taking very strong steps.”
The French defender, who previously enjoyed a stint at Villarreal joined the Basque club from Girona in 2016.
