Jemez hails ‘spectacular’ Guerra

Paco Jemez hailed Javi Guerra for his “spectacular” form after the striker’s brace in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Granada.

The former Cardiff City man scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season against the Andalucians to move himself on par with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Pichichi stakes, although Los Vallecanos’ performance was tainted by an early red card to Ze Castro.

“I’m not surprised about the goals he’s scored, although his streak is spectacular,” the Coach said after the game.

“He has instinct, talent and is a team player because he’s the first to run and fight like a dog and make sacrifices.

“He’s a big player for us and the rest [referring to his goals] is an added incentive.

“[On Ze Castro’s red card], they were his first offences and he was very sorry.

“I understand players make mistakes, but they can be very expensive because we have to compete enough [with 11 men] as it is.

“They were two very quick plays and, most importantly, the player tried to take responsibility.

“I hope that’s worth something for us in the future because in the end it hurt the team.

“[On Rayo picking up their fifth red card in 11 games], it doesn’t concern me.

“The rules are wrong and prevent a player from doing almost anything.

“The referees aren’t to blame because they only apply the rules they’ve been given.

“It’s getting all so demanding that we’ll eventually play with only seven men.”
