Former Real Valladolid Coach Rubi is expected to be appointed by Levante after it was decided Luis Garcia Plaza was an impossibility.
It had been reported that the former Getafe trainer was wanted by Les Granotes to replace Lucas Alcaraz, but getting him out of his contract with UAE club Baniyas would be difficult.
So it has proved, Marca reports, with Rubi now the likely option, having been picked by sporting director Manolo Salvador.
Former Almeria boss Francisco was also mooted but contact between Levante and Rubi is at an advanced stage and a deal until the end of the season is expected.
Rubi was also on Tito Vilanova’s staff at Barcelona, and spent a season as Coach of Girona in 2012-13.
