Garcia demands Espanyol intensity

Sergio Gonzalez has warned Espanyol that “we have to play the same intensity, otherwise we’ll be eaten” ahead of Friday’s trip to Eibar in La Liga.

Los Periquitos could leapfrog their rivals into the last Europa League spot up for grabs with victory at Ipurua, but standing in their way are the Basques, who head into the match just one point clear of the relegation zone.

“We have to play with the same intensity [as we’ve played with recently], otherwise we’ll be eaten,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“[Ipurua] will be hell, playing host to the biggest match in Ipurua’s history, but that should motivate us more.

“However, Espanyol are in a strong position to tackle these games. We’re in a good run of form.

“The key will be intensity, competing and second phases. [Eibar’s win at Cornella-El Prat in the first half of the season] was difficult to take and unexpected.

“We realised that we couldn’t give up and assume that we could win a game without turning up. Eventually, that defeat served us well.

“I don’t have enough information, but a strike has been called because [the AFE] believes it’s necessary. The AFE supports the players and it has the support of the players.

“It’s important that the parties find a solution without stopping the League. They’re now forced to reach an agreement.

“I believe in our people and their dialogue. The idea that such a big League like ours being postponed has never crossed my mind.”
